Toluca, Estado de Mexico.- Chivas was a display of grit and insistence as they fought to tie up the match, inspire of their effort, Guadalajara lost 1-0 to Toluca on Sunday at Estadio Nemesio Diez during Matchweek 6 of Liga MX Guard1anes 2020, putting an end to El Rebaño’s 2 game winning streak.
The first minutes of the game were a midfield battle as both teams fiercely tried to gain control and establish the pace. Toluca got their first good chance in the 8th minute. Enrique Triverio released a violent header deflected by 'Toño' Rodriguez. As minutes passed by, Chivas took over possession and began to find opportunities on offense, creating opportunities on Tolucas goal. The first came in 11th minute as 'Cone' shot above target. Three minutes later, Molina fired a scorcher from outside the box that went slightly off target following a great pass from Jesus Angulo.
The best chances for Chivas came in the last 10 minutes of the half. Minute 34, following a brilliant collective play down the left side, Miguel Ponce squeezed a through ball to JJ who let fly with a left-footed shot barely off target. Angulo, 36th minute, went inside the box and shot but the ball was deflected towards a corner kick.
At the very start of the second half, Chivas came out swinging, in the 50th minute Macias made a great run to enter the box and shot, but it was blocked by a defender, two minutes later JJ with another chance as he unleashed a rocket, again deflected for a corner by Garcia. However, it was Toluca who took the lead in the 59th minute following a corner kick that found Diego Gonzalez open to head it home.
From that moment, it was Chivas who tried, at all costs, to find the equalizer. Minute 67 Molina almost pulled one back when ‘Chofis’ found him with a good cross but the Captain’s header hit the crossbar. Minute 74, Jose Juan fired a nice shot that was again miraculously saved by Garcia’s foot. Minutes later, the referee disallowed a goal scored by el 'Canelo' for an apparent offside by 'Cone'. Finally, in stoppage time, minute 93, Macias header was off target. Chivas faces Pachuca next Saturday at 7 PM CT at Estadio Akron.
