Mexico City.-Despite a complicated week for Chivas, ‘El Rebaño’ seemed very determined, from the start of the game, to fight over ball possession and game control. In fact, it was Chivas who struck first, as in minute 5 Uriel Antuna sent the ball into the back of the net with a smooth touch following a nice assist and a solo play by ‘Cone’ Brizuela.
Chivas’ goal was a wake-up call for Pumas who started to push forward in the hunt for the equalizer. First Waller, in minute 14, fired up a long-range shot that went wide, then in the 17th minute, Freire got the equalizer with a solid header past Gudiño.
Eventually, El Rebaño was able to regain ball control and in minute 27, Alexis Vega unleashed a great header blocked by a Pumas defender, three minutes later, Fernando Beltrán shot from outside the box but the ball went off target. By the dawn of the first half, in the 37th minute, team captain, Jesús Molina took advantage of a great cross by Alexis Vega and sent the ball into the back of the net with a precise header.
Chivas started the second half at full throttle, first with a fantastic run from ‘Brujo’ Antuna who entered the box and passed the ball to Alexis Vega who missed on an empty target, then in minute 48, Jesús Angulo unleashed a rocket that went into the crossbar.
Pumas tried to answer back and in the 52nd minute, Waller splattered his left-footed shot off the post. Then, in minute 63, Gudiño saved a header from Dinenno. In minute 70, Uriel Antuna almost got his brace as he entered the box and shot into the far post; however, Talavera denied. Carlos Gonzalez tied the game in the 79th minute with a violent header from inside the box.
During Matchweek 17 of Guard1anes 2020, 'El Chiverío' will try to climb up the standings when they face Monterrey next Saturday 7th at Estadio Akron.
