Chivas with a tremendous comeback triumphed over Monterrey

07/11/2020 18:58 / Fernando Giaccardi

With less than a minute on the pitch, Monterrey showed its offensive intentions when Nico Sánchez tried a long-range shot which slewed wide, a minute later Janssen fired a violent shot that ended up in Gudiño’s waiting arms. Monterrey kept trying their luck from long-distance, Pabón in minute 8 fired from long distance, off-target.

The first chance for Chivas arrived in minute 17 as Antuna shot from outside the box but way off target then in the 28th minute, Alexis Vega with another long-range shot that Hugo González controlled without problems. The long-shot shooting fest from both teams continued when Monterrey forward, Pabón smashed one from outside the box in minute 30; however, Gudiño kept hold of the ball.

It was Monterrey who struck first, as in the 35th minute, a set-piece found Hurtado who, with a precise header, slipped one past Gudiño giving the visitors the lead.

In the 41st minute, Alexis Vega could have gotten the equalizer from just inside the box, but Sánchez cleared the ball just in time.

Since the start of the second half, Monterrey made it clear they intended to increase their lead. In the 46 minute, a flashy half bicycle kick almost hit the target, then in minute 60’ Gudiño showcased his amazing skills & kept ‘El Rebaño’s’ hopes alive with a fantastic save to Gallardo’s shot. In the 74th minute, Janssen had a very clear chance to put the game to rest, but amazingly he missed on an empty net after Gudiño barely managed to get his fingers on the ball before the Dane put his boot to it.

Minute 81, Uriel Antuna performed a great solo play to cross the ball to Zaldívar whose acrobatic header ended in the back of the net. The goal resulted a real confidence booster for ‘El Chiverío’ as it only took them 2 minutes to flip the scoreboard thanks to a superb long-range rocket off Alexis Vega’s right boot. Chivas wanted more and Jesús Angulo “puso la cereza” as he entered the box and cashed for ‘El Rebaño’ after a rebound on his first attempt which had bounced off the crossbar.
