Chivas outperformed Xolos and got a much-needed win

17/04/2021 21:03 / Fernando Giaccardi

From the get-go, Chivas made clear that they were aware of what was at stake and went all-in while pushing hard for the goal with solid collective play and an aggressive stance.

The first chance for Guadalajara took little to arrive as in minute 2 Macías entered the box and fired a violent shot straight into the keeper’s body though.

In the 8th minute, Antuna crossed a precise ball into ‘JJ’ whose header went above, then a couple of minutes later, José Juan Macías fired a powerful shot a bit off target. Four minutes later, the referee awarded a penalty kick for El Rebaño due to a handball, unfortunately, Xolos GK saved Macías penalty.

By the 30-minute mark, ‘Cone’ Brizuela performed a flashy run to then cross the ball to Antuna who fired a left-footed shot saved by Díaz. In the 38th minute, Gilberto Sepúlveda unleashed a solid header that failed to hit the target.

Little chance in the second half and eventually, hard work paid off for El Chiverío. In minute 46, ‘Toño’ Rodriguez saved nicely a shot by Manotas, two minutes later, Alexis Vega fired a real banger straight into the back of the net to give Chivas the lead.

In the 55th minute, Alexis Vega delivered a great ball straight into Ponce’s head but was not able to get the ball into the back of the net.

Close to minute 70, Alexis Vega tried to get his brace with a curling shot into the far post, but it went wide to the left. Three minutes later, Miguel Ponce was close to getting a flashy goal; nonetheless, Díaz saved his volley shot.

With just ten minutes to go, Jesús ‘Canelo’ Angulo took advantage of a great collective play and got assisted by Isaac Brizuela inside the box to simply shot past Díaz.

Chivas will travel to Monterrey to clash with Rayados as part of a pending game from Matchweek 12 of Guar1anes 2021.
