A lighting quick start by Chivas as they showed a very aggressive stance in the first minutes which granted ball control and dangerous chances in the attacking half.
By minute 23, ‘JJ’ Macías unleashed a very long-range shot that was caught by González, three minutes later, Isaac Brizuela gave El Rebaño the lead thanks to a superb showcase of skills as he outran a couple of defenders, entered the box, and chip the ball over González.
A couple of minutes later, Uriel Antuna was close to increasing Chivas’ lead; however, his left-footed shot was saved by the goalkeeper. In minute 37 Kranevitter released a curling shot from outside the box and ‘Toño’ Rodríguez spectacularly saved his goal.
Before the end of the first half, ‘Toño’ Rodríguez continued with his display of top-class goalkeeping as he performed an outstanding save on a curling shot that was aimed at the far post.
From the get-go of the second half, Monterrey showed a more offensive game plan which caused a bit of a problem for Chivas' defensive line; nonetheless, as time elapsed Guadalajara found their footing back and controlled the game.
In the 54th minute, Alexis Vega crossed the ball into José Juan Macías’ feet; however, his shot went a bit wide to the right. In minute 61, Monterrey equalized the game thanks to a goal by Janssen. Ten minutes later, the referee awarded a penalty kick for El Chiverío as Antuna was fouled inside the box or so it seemed as the call was overruled following a VAR review.
By the end of the game, Alexis Vega gave back Chivas the lead with a cold-blooded finish inside the box after a great collective play by Guadalajara. In just three days, Chivas will play another edition of El Clásico Tapatío as they'll clash with Atlas next Saturday 24th at Estadio Jalisco as part of matchweek 16 of Guard1anes 2021.
