Spring has come to ‘El Redil’! Should we be cautious in celebrating? Of course not! A two game streak is nothing to be laughed at! ‘Pos’ faltaba mas!
So, yes, to some, it might appear to simply be a two game winning streak. Simply Six points. Simply Seventh place with two games left to play in regular season. Perhaps two winnable games. Pumas this Saturday and season closer against the Los Rayos the following weekend.
Let me explain. Pumas has an upcoming CONCACAF FINAL and ‘Profe’ Lillini is most probably going to send an alternate starting 11 for the game against Guadalajara this Saturday night. Nothing for sure but it seems like the most logical scenario.
Necaxa is another story. Winnable? Maybe, but with a an If. Necaxa has continued to close strong in the final leg of the tourney. They are playing effective, simple futbol. Solid defense and a mean counter. They easily switch speeds and take advantage of any weakness whenever attacking.
In my opinion, Chivas will be able to take them. Why? Because we have finally found some consistency. Not just a shocked reaction, not some individual prowess. There was process here. A process started in the youth division. More than half of our starting 11 were canteranos. There is a special understanding there which gives solidity to the lines. The outside incorporations are now part of the whole. Calderon coming to his former self. Angulo starting to find his place and take up the challenge. Mier! RAGNAR!!! He is back. Against Xolos a glitch.
Look at the scenario. Cruz Azul vs Chivas. Away Game. Two important players, Beltran and Cone, on the IL. Chivas played well, lost one during the game and played even better.
The Xolos match starts off, minute 11, the Mighty Viking, back in form, a bad bounce and rebound off his shin and into the net. I can still see Mier’s face, I was sitting behind the north goal, front row. He couldn’t believe it. Then Checo Flores came over, helped him get to his feet, gave him a pat and said “Vamos Cabron.”
Then Cone back on the IL!!! Pavel Perez enters the scene and the pitch is transformed into a wild gyroscope of Red and White jerseys! For the next 60 minutes Chivas took the fight to Xolos. Two goals later Chivas starts feeling the effort. And of course there must be some drama in a Chivas-Xolos game. And so we suffered for 15 minutes! As Xolos pummeled on the Red and White defensive wall.
We must have been blessed by the Gods of Fucho or maybe we just got lucky for about 15 minutes with 3 posts and an outstanding performance by Wacho Jimenez, the Gate Keeper, el Cancerbero slammed the doors shut.
Yeah! I am gloating! I deserve to a little just like all of the Chiva Brothers and Sisters who have been taking it all in. Standing strong during hard times. Nothing has been won yet but we are always there. This is the Chiva Way.
