Chivas Femenil sets record by beating Rayadas

02/05/2022 21:59 / Omar González

There could not have been a better way for Chivas Femenil to end the regular phase of the Clausura 2022 Tournament, as they defeated the current champions and leaders Rayadas 1-0 at the Akron Stadium to record their best record of wins in a tournament, with 13, in addition to finishing undefeated and with the best defense in the competition, with allowing only 6 goals during the regular season.

The result was fair but short for the team coached by Juan Pablo Alfaro, as there seemed to be only one team on the pitch from the beginning of the match that made the effort to obtain the three points and that was Guadalajara, who found their first opportunity to open the scoreboard at minute 11 through Alicia Cervantes, who put in a right-footed cross, but the ball hit the metal. At 20', Casandra Montero almost opened the scoring with a shot at the near post after a pass from Joseline Montoya, but the ball went inches wide of the goal.

Las Rayadas reacted until the 39th minute, when Christian Burkenroad received the ball with full advantage in the box and incredibly shot it wide, it was the only oversight of the Red and White defense. In the first minute of the second half, 'Licha' gave another warning when she escaped at full speed from her keepers, but her shot went straight to Alex Godínez, who was the most outstanding player for the visitors. The northerners had another chance until the 60th minute, when Burkenroad sent the ball into the net, but the goal was disallowed after an offside call.

In the final minutes, the Rebaño stepped on the gas, at 81' Cervantes tried a well-placed shot from mid-distance, but Godínez was able to deflect it with a spectacular save, but only two minutes later the pressure applied by Guadalajara paid off, when Alejandra Lua failed to receive a ball that was intercepted by 'Licha', who touched it to Carolina Jaramillo to score the winning goal that rounded off a dream regular phase. The next challenge for Guadalajara will be the quarter-final series against Pumas UNAM.
