Chivas wins and pleases against Santos in SLC

15/06/2022 22:49 / Omar González

Salt Lake City, Utah - Chivas gave a very good performance in their first match of the Rebaño 2022 Tour, defeating Santos Laguna 3-1, with a goal from Antonio Briseño and a brace from José Juan Macías, to continue their upward trend on the road to the Liga MX Apertura Tournament.

Guadalajara played a strong game in the first half of the match, with ball possession from the start, which allowed them to make quick breaks from the first minute, a combination between Jesús Sánchez and Pavel Pérez left Ángel Zaldívar in front of the box, who was obstructed and knocked down as he attempted to shoot, but the referee did not award a penalty for the foul.

The Rebaño took control of the match, and at 6', Sebastián Martínez gave the second warning with a left-footed half-volley, the ball went just over the Guerreros' goal. At 15', Gael Sandoval took a corner kick from the left to the near post, where Antonio Briseño spun his neck to take the header and the ball went just wide. Nine minutes later, the connection resulted in a goal for "Pollo" with a header that was well out of reach of goalkeeper Lajud. At 28', the team from Guadalajara nearly scored a second goal with a flashy shot by Ángel Zaldívar, but the ball went wide.

In the second half, the Chiverío conceded a foul in the right corridor, which was capitalized by the Guerreros, as Leo Suárez sent a shot into the box, where Matheus Doria pushed the ball into the back of the net at minute 52. After the goal, the Rebaño responded with determination and, in five minutes, José Juan Macías scored a double to seal the match.

At 72', Macías extended a ball to Carlos Cisneros, who, entering the area, was brought down by Ronaldo Prieto and was awarded a penalty, which the red and white striker Macias, turned into a goal with a fine flick to deceive the goalkeeper, while at 77', José Juan showed his goal-scoring instinct when he scored with a left-footed cross after receiving the ball from Paolo Yrizar. Guadalajara will resume its U.S. tour next Saturday in Chicago, when it will face Atlas.
