The meeting between Chivas and Athletic Club goes beyond a soccer match, as it landmarks the meeting of two clubs which have much in common, the colors of their jerseys, the uninterrupted participation in the honor category in their country and above all a philosophy of playing with only members of their nation and region, which has endured over time and has given them a special identity.
As part of this historic date, this Saturday afternoon a commemorative act took place between both institutions, headed by Amaury Vergara, president of Chivas, and Jon Ruigómez, vice president of Athletic Club, with a visit to the General Assembly of Vizcaya, which has been framed with a photograph at the Tree of Gernika, which gives its name to the trophy that will be in dispute between Guadalajara and Los Leones with a reciprocal series, starting this Sunday at San Mamés.
As for similarities, the main representatives of the teams were Jesús Sánchez and Iker Muniain, who, in addition to being captains, are players from their club's youth academy who have spent their entire careers in the red and white striped jerseys of Chivas and Athletic Club, respectively.
With this emotional preamble, the table has been set for the first match of the Árbol de Gernika Tournament this Sunday, December 11 at 7 p.m. (12 p.m. Mexico City time) at the San Mamés Stadium.
