Chivas had a great first half, almost by the letter, they had Toluca at their mercy during that period, but they fell short of their partial lead and failed to sustain it, in addition to not capitalizing on more options up front, which ended up costing them the 3 points at home when they lost 1-2 to Toluca, in a match on Day 3 of the Clausura 2023.
Goals:
- El Rebaño opened the account at 31', after 'Piojo' Alvarado put in a through ball that left 'Nene' Beltrán unmarked inside the box, but when he tried to put in a delayed pass, Valber Huerta sent the ball into the cage.
- At 59', Maxi Araújo put in a cross from the left that Carlos Rodríguez sent to the far post with a header.
- At 83', the visitors turned the tables around when Camilo Sanvezzo put in a cross to the far post and Marcel Ruiz headed it home.
Danger Plays:
- At 3' Alejandro Mayorga sent 'Charal' Cisneros down the flank, who cut back on his marker and then put in a cross into the six-yard box, which Tiago Volpi put our with two fists before Ronaldo Cisneros was able to send it into the back of the net.
- At 10', 'Piojo' Alvarado went straight for a corner kick and almost surprised Volpi.
- At 15', the 'Charal' sent a shot between the lines that left Ronaldo unmarked, although without much of an angle to shoot, and Volpi leaned back to dig out the cross-shot with his fingernails.
- In the 18th minute, Jean Meneses took a cross-shot that went inches wide.
- At 27' Mayorga took advantage of a small space between two defenders to sneak into the box, and when he reached the back line, he put in a delayed pass that the backline punched just before the 'Nene' shot; the ball was left for 'Pocho' Guzmán, who played it as it came, but his attempt went inches wide of the right-hand corner of the net.
- At 44', 'Piojo' shook off his mark with a dribble and then put in a cross for 'Charal' to head, but the ball went wide of the goal.
- At 47', 'Piojo' escaped down the flank, then cut back towards the center and took a left-footed shot, but it hit the crossbar.
- At 54', 'Wacho' had a feline reaction when he flew to save a close-range header by Carlos Rodríguez.
- At 62', 'Wacho' held off Rodríguez in a one-on-one situation, but his shot hit the right post.
- At 71' Alan Mozo pulled the trigger from long distance and Tiago Volpi flew to deflect the ball with his fingernails.
- At 76', Pável Pérez cut back 2 defenders and then shot, the ball was deflected to the half-moon area where 'Lalo' Torres shot as it came, but the ball went wide of the goal.
- In the last play of the match, 'Chiquete' Orozco missed the equalizer after he crossed his header too far.
