An X-ray of Chivas' victory over Xolos

23/08/2023 14:54 / Enrique Noriega

Guadalajara has not lost height or rhythm at the start of the Apertura 2023 and, after beating Xolos, has extended its unbeaten streak and remained at the top of the standings with 13 points. What were the key footballing factors in achieving this? Relax, we'll give you an X-ray of this important victory.

General analysis

Chivas was far superior to Tijuana during the 90 minutes, they took control of the ball and tried to control the game without giving it away. They generated several scoring chances, which they were unable to capitalize on, however the overall performance was more than good.

After Roberto Alvarado's 1-0 goal, the result was never in danger. They defended well in the box and in front of the goal when Xolos tried to put in crosses, minimizing any intentions on the part of the visitors. Guadalajara showed maturity and, above all, security to get the result, in addition to providing an outstanding display for the Chiva Nation, which made another great entrance at the Akron Stadium.

Collective highlights

The Rebaño managed to push the Red and Blacks near their own area, which allowed them to raise the defensive block practically into the opponent's half and recover the ball very quickly. In addition, the game plan and the players who started as starters allowed certain behaviors to become a reality.

First of all, let's talk about Alan Mozo on the right, who normally provides width and depth, which allowed 'Piojo' Alvarado to invade central areas and generate combinations on the inside. In fact, the Rebaño came close to scoring a goal with a play where Alvarado broke through that area.

Chiquete Orozco, on the left, played a leading role with and without the ball, in addition to doing his bit in the defense of the box, protecting the far post. Tijuana looked to place long balls for their 2 strikers, but Antonio Briseño was fine when rejecting or intercepting their attacking attempts.

Lastly, Ricardo Marín and Alexis Vega were excellent in attack and allowed Chivas to make progress in the final third. The 10 was a player who helped release pressure thanks to his first touches, while Marín was able to support his teammates and even managed to put two balls on goal.

The TOP 3

- Roberto Alvarado: Beyond scoring the winning goal, he was a protagonist at all times. He appeared inside and outside, giving advantage to his teammates by providing passing lanes and being an option as a receiver and thrower.

- Rubén González: He was a bulwark, absorbing many meters of field due to his physical strength and interpretation of the game. With the ball he also adds a lot, his passes are becoming more and more aggressive. He is a great support option for 'Nene', who usually looks for short associations.

- Fernando Beltrán: Like 'Piojo', he has been at a great level for some time now. He helped Guadalajara generate passing circuits by commanding possession, and even came close to scoring a goal after a good combination with Marín. He was quite active in his runs, but they were unable to find him.
