The X-ray of Chivas' victory over Leon

11/09/2023 18:30 / Enrique Noriega

It was important for Chivas to leave good footballing sensations ahead of the Clásico de Mexico, so the 2-0 win over Leon, in addition to providing confidence, reaffirms that the Rebaño is doing things right and is on the right track.

General analysis
The Rebaño Sagrado dominated the match thanks to the rhythm they imposed with and without the ball. In addition, the red and white team imposed conditions due to the good pressure they exerted and the way they directed the Esmeraldas' attacks where it suited them best.

One of the most important players in the match was Cristian Calderón, who, in addition to scoring a goal and assisting on the second, helped to sink León in their own half. How did he do it? By being deep on the left flank, in order to break up the man-to-man marking provided by Nicolás Larcamón.

Basically, the key to the match was how well the attackers and midfielders were able to put pressure on León, as they did not allow them to make any progress in their outings, and they made a mess of their attacking intentions. Now that we are talking about the midfield, it is a good time to highlight how complementary Guadalajara looked in that area, as they alternated very well between pressing and defending empty spaces.

With the ball, there was also another highlight, and that was the short associative play, having Marín and Brizuela on the wing ensured that the team was able to drag the ball inside, forcing the León defense to move.

In conclusion, Chivas once again showed the identity that characterizes them when it comes to pressing and accelerating play with the ball. This is extraordinary news, especially with a view to the Clásico de Mexico against América.

Individual highlights:
- Rubén González: The 'Bear' was one of the central axis of the Rebaño thanks to the pressure he exerted on the ball holders. He combined very well with his teammates in the zone and they shared the tasks with and without the ball in an adequate manner.

- Ricardo Marín: He started the game as a midfielder on the right flank and was quite invasive as he was all over the pitch. Another very favorable point for the Red and White attacker was his work in pressing, together with Ronaldo Cisneros, he forced turnovers for the Panzas Verdes.

- Raúl Martínez: He was a starter due to the absence of the selected players and performed extraordinarily well. He is a center back with great individual technique and showed it in every intervention he made and with his passes between the lines. It is very valuable for Chivas that the central defenders are fine on the ball, in order to give their midfielders an advantage.
