It took 26 years for a Chivas coach to equal the record for most wins in a calendar year with the club, since after beating Cruz Azul this Saturday at the Akron Stadium, Veljko Paunovic reached the mark set by Ricardo 'Tuca' Ferretti in 1997.
Pauno won 20 of the 39 matches he coached in Liga MX so far in 2023; he drew 8 and lost the remaining 11. For his part, the statistics left by 'Tuca' at the helm of the Rebaño in 1997 were 20 wins, 14 draws and 8 losses, in 43 matches.
However, one thing must be made clear. In 2007, the club managed to win 22 matches, but did so under two coaches: José Manuel de la Torre and Efraín Flores, which undoubtedly represents a greater merit for this group of players and especially for Veljko and his coaching staff, who in this process have managed to strengthen their players to turn Guadalajara into an extremely competitive and regular team.
