On a day like today but 7 years ago, Guadalajara experienced a transcendental moment in its history. It was on April 19, 2017, when the Rebaño lifted its fourth Copa MX title in its history, which also marked the beginning of an era full of good times for the Chiva Nation.
Chivas won that Copa MX championship when they defeated Monarcas Morelia at the Fortaleza Rojiblanca. This was a dream semester for Guadalajara, which in addition to winning the cup title, the Rebaño managed to win its 12th Liga MX title.
That title was built on defeating Atlante and Venados de Mérida in the group stage, and then reaching the do-or-die stage, where they eliminated Rayados in the Semifinals playing as visitors, which meant they reached the Grand Final of the competition.
That night was full of drama, as the match had to be decided in a penalty shootout, after a 0-0 draw at the end of the 90 minutes. In the penalty kicks, Guadalajara came out victorious by a score of 3-1, thanks to the extraordinary shots by Hedgardo Marín, Alan Pulido, and Orbelín Pineda. We must also highlight Miguel Jiménez as one of the heroes of the night, as, in addition to keeping a clean sheet, he was a decisive factor in the shootout.
A Red and White note...
- 2 players from the current squad played minutes in that final: Miguel Jiménez and Jesús Sánchez.
