The memory of a triumphant afternoon in California

10/07/2024 14:20 / Roberto García

Every July 10 is a day to remember, especially for the Rojiblanca Nation based in California, since eight years ago Guadalajara added another trophy to its trophy cabinet. On a day like today, the Rebaño Sagrado won the 2016 SuperCopa MX by defeating Veracruz 2-0 at the then StubHub Center (now Dignity Health Sports Park) in Carson, California, which unleashed the Red-and-White fiesta in the stands of the stadium.

The Rebaño Sagrado dominated the match from the opening whistle, with 'Gullit' Peña and 'Charal' Cisneros generating the first danger on the Escualos' goal. Guadalajara’s insistence paid off and after a give and go between Ángel Zaldívar and Orbelín Pineda, they were able to move the scoreboard.

The second half was no different from the first, with Chivas looking like a gale and insistently attacking the Veracruz goal, but the outstanding performance of the rival goalkeeper prevented a scandalous goal, by containing several shots on goal.

Guadalajara found the just reward for their efforts in the late stages of the match through their legend and historic goal scorer, Omar Bravo, who scored the definitive 2-0 goal when he intercepted the trajectory of a shot by Eduardo López and sent the ball into the net. This goal marked Omar's farewell and the end of his successful career with the most popular and beloved team in our country.

The Red and White note...
- This match marked the debut ofChivas TV, the ChivaHermanos signal for ChivaHermanos, as it was the first broadcast of a Rebaño Sagrado match on this signal.
