The history between Chivas and Leon

16/09/2024 15:21 / Roberto García

It's time to turn the page for the Rebaño Sagrado, which returns to the Akron Stadium this Wednesday to play another match with the Chiva Nation. The opponent in turn will be León, which is going through a low point in the Apertura 2024 and presents a good opportunity for Fernando Gago's team to make amends in the competition.

How do Chivas fare when they face the team from the Bajío in short tournaments? Here we'll tell you all the details.

The meetings between Chivas and León date back to 1996, when in the Winter Tournament they played to a scoreless draw in the first edition of these duels. Since that August 17, the two sides have met 41 times, with Guadalajara clearly winning 17 of those matches, compared to just 12 for Los Esmeraldas.

The biggest win in the series also went to the red-and-whites. On Matchday 15 of Winter 98, 'Tuca' Ferretti's team overwhelmed the felines 5-1 on the Nou Camp pitch with goals from Ricardo Peláez, 'Cabrito' Arellano, Ramón Ramírez twice and Alberto Coyote

In terms of matches played on Jalisco soil, Chiverío won 7 of the 20 total, with 8 draws and only 5 defeats.

Both teams have already faced each other in a final. To do so, we have to go back to the MX Cup in the 2015 Apertura, in which a header from Oswaldo Alanís gave the title to the Rebaño Sagrado on Guanajuato soil.
