This Saturday, September 21, is very special for someone who marked an era in Guadalajara for his outstanding performances, leadership and hierarchy. Today is Oswaldo Sánchez's 51st birthday and as a way of congratulating him, we have prepared a brief account of his outstanding career with Chivas and the national team.

The goalkeeper arrived at the Rebaño Sagrado for the Invierno 99 season and played his first official match with the team on August 15 of that same year, when Chiverío beat Morelia 2-0. Sánchez remained with Guadalajara for 7 years, a period in which he was part of an epoch-making generation, thanks to his outstanding performances in Liga MX, the Copa Libertadores and even the Merconorte Cup, a competition in which he scored a header against Ecuador's Nacional.

Oswaldo played 272 official matches with Chivas and experienced very special moments, as he was the one who, as captain, lifted the national championship title in 2006. In addition, he became a reference for youngsters who dreamed of one day becoming goalkeepers, as his tremendous reflexes and personality made him unique.

At the National Team level, Oswaldo Sanchez is also highly respected and his trajectory backs him up. He was called up to 3 consecutive World Cups, starting in France 1998 and closing the cycle in Germany 2006. With El Tri he played in many renowned competitions, such as 3 Copa América, 3 Gold Cups, 3 Confederations Cups, 1 Pan American Games, 1 Olympic Games and 1 Under 20 World Cup.

All that remains is to congratulate 'San Oswaldo' on celebrating another year of life. The Rojiblanca Nation remembers him for his dedication to the red and white colors.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GOALKEEPER!
