After their draw at home against Pumas and the end of Matchday 15 of the Apertura 2024, Guadalajara has two matches ahead of them to ensure their presence in the Final Phase of the tournament. Both matches will be played next week in a double-header, which means they will be days of intense activity for the Rojiblancos.
So that you don't miss any of the details, here we explain each of the scenarios for Chivas to qualify, with which teams they are in contention for a ticket, and what to expect in Matchdays 16 and 17.
What is Chiverío's current situation?
With 22 points, the team from Guadalajara is ninth in the standings, occupying one of the places for the second key of the Play In. The Rebaño even have a mathematical possibility of reaching a direct qualification spot, as they are only 3 points away, with 6 points still to play for.
Which teams are competing with the Rojiblancos?
Along with Chivas, Atlético de San Luis, Pumas, Tijuana, América, Atlas and Léon are all aiming for the same goal. All of these teams, with the exception of La Fiera, have a mathematical chance of qualifying directly for the Fiesta Grande.
How is the overall standings?
Position / Team / Points / Goal difference
-5° Atlético de San Luis / 26 / +7
-6° Pumas / 25 / +5
-7th Tijuana / 25 / +2
-8th América / 24 / +9
-9th Chivas / 24 / +8
-10° Atlas / 20 / -6
-11° Leon / 17 / -1
What is Chivas aiming for in the remaining two games?
If the Jalisco-based team wins both remaining matches, it will reach 28 points, which could even take fourth place overall with some combinations of results.
If they win one and draw the other, Los Tapatíos are aiming for 26 points, which could put them virtually in fifth place in the table.
If the Rebaño Sagrado wins one and loses the other, they would reach 25 points, which would give them direct qualification to the Liguilla in sixth place.
Now, if they draw the remaining two matches, they will reach 24 points, which would be enough to secure the Play In.
If they do not score more points in AP24, they will remain with 22 points and will depend on other results to advance to the Final Phase.
