Chivas beats Santos and secures its place in the Final Phase

05/11/2024 21:21 / Javier Quezada

Torreón.- Guadalajara, who were aware of their obligation to win the entire match against Santos in order to secure their place in the Final Phase via Play In, fulfilled their obligation by defeating the Guerreros 2-0 on Tuesday night at the TSM and, in the process, they remain firmly in the fight for one of the last direct tickets to the Liguilla by reaching a total of 25 points.

From now on, the Rebaño will focus on their next match against Atlético San Luis, to be played this Saturday at the Akron. Let's go together, ChivaHermanos!

The Goals
- Chivas opened the scoring just before halftime, after José Castillo went on the attack and put in a cross that Cade Cowell hammered in with his head to send the ball into the cage!

- Yael's GOAL and the 3 points in the bag! Padilla took a rebound in three quarters of the field and without a second thought, fired a shot that cleared Acevedo, who had left his goal to save in the previous play.

The Highlights
- At the 1st minute, Yael Padilla delivered a service to the heart of the area, where Teun Wilke appeared to head the ball into Acevedo's hands.
- At 12', Cowell received a filtered pass and headed unmarked into the box, but the defense recovered just in time to prevent his shot on goal.
- At 24' Chivas came within a whisker of opening the scoring, but Acevedo saved a couple of shots on the line, first a cross from Castillo at point-blank range and then one from Teun Wilke on the rebound.
- At 36', Yael took the ball in the last third of the field and, on the fly, shook off the marking of 2 defenders to head towards goal and shoot, but the goalkeeper saved his cross shot.
- At 60', 'Tala' made a great save under the 3 posts, stoically holding on to a point-blank shot by Lozano.
- At 82', 'Nene', who had just entered the field of play, tried his luck from the edge of the area, but a slight deflection by the defense prevented the second Rojiblanco goal.
