Chivas tried and tried until the last second at the Akron Stadium, but an oversight in stoppage time cost them a narrow defeat against Atlético San Luis, on matchday 17 of the Apertura 2024. Los Rojiblancos are now in ninth place in the table with 25 points and are waiting for the end of the day to find out their opponent in the Play In series.
The Rebaño Sagrado held the initiative in the match for most of the time and generated several scoring chances to win and move into the top six places in the table, but lacked the finishing touches to reflect this in the scoreboard. On the hour mark, the visitors surprised in one of the few chances they had.
Guadalajara will now await the results of León and Atlas to find out their next opponent and will have a week to prepare for the Play In due to the break for the November FIFA Date.
The goal
-At 93', Rodrigo Dourado finished off a cross to the far post and beat the run of 'Tala' Rangel.
The danger
-How close, José! At 4' Alan Mozo received on the right and sent a dangerous shot into the box, where Sánchez's hand deflected, but it was left to Castillo at the far post, but he couldn't make a good connection.
-At 27', 'Nene' Beltrán set up Cade Cowell at speed on the right; the 'Cowboy' lifted his face and served low to the 'Hormiga', but the defense's coverage cleared the danger.
-What a shot from Cade! At 33', it was left for Cowell to bounce inside the area; without thinking, the 'Cowboy' volleyed it, but sent it just over the top.
-At 35', 'Guti' tried to surprise with a set piece, with a powerful shot at the near post, which Sánchez denied with his fists.
-Close call, Guti! Again the Rebaño captain, this time coming from the second line to head a cross from Yael, which he couldn't connect solidly and went just wide.
-The 'Nene' burst the crossbar at minute 60! After cutting back towards the center from the left, Beltrán shot with an inside shot and only the crossbar prevented the Rebaño's first goal.
-At 66', Luis Rey headed a corner kick, which passed very close to the goal.
-At 74', 'Chicharito' scored an incredible shot, but was flagged for offside.
-At 79', Pável Pérez appeared alone on the left thanks to a pass filtered by 'Oso' González, but he shot over the top when Sanchez was diving.
-At 91', 'Chicharito' scored again inside the area, but again the previous action was flagged for an advanced position.
