November 21 is a day of celebration for the Rojiblanca Nation, as it marks the birth of one of the defenders who have left their mark on the club's recent history. Do you want to know who he is? Stay and we'll tell you all about it.
To find out who we are talking about, we have to go back to 1981, when José Jonny Magallón Oliva was born in Ocotlán, Jalisco. With soccer in his blood, driven by his family's passion for the sport, Magallón was trained until he arrived at the Cantera Rojiblanca in 1999.
Although his debut took a while to arrive, as he saw his first minutes in the Maximum Circuit until 2005, Jonny made his way through the youth categories of the Rebaño, helping his teams to reach the finals of the Third Division, Second Division and First A.
It was during the El Clásico de México that Liga MX got to know his quality in the lower zone, when he came on at 75' in place of 'Bofo' Bautista in the unforgettable 3-3 draw played at the Azteca Stadium. It didn't take long for the player from Ocotlense to earn a place in the defensive line, which he would be part of practically uninterruptedly for 6 years, in which he completed each and every minute in 3 semesters: AP06, CL08 and AP10.
Precisely in 2006, Magallón was part of the team that lifted Guadalajara's 11 at the Nemesio Diez Stadium, with that iconic team, full of great players, and which also added one more Final at an individual level for the player from Ocotlán.
Years later, the player who wore Guadalajara's 19 ended up establishing himself within the Rojiblanca team at local and international level, even wearing the captain's badge, in tournaments such as the 2009 Superliga where he was champion, in addition to the 2007 CONCACAF Champions League and the 2010 Libertadores Cup, where he crossed off the list another 2 finals to his account.
With the Mexican National Team he also had memorable performances, which earned him to play 2 Gold Cup Finals in 2007 and 2009, winning the second one, which earned him to be part of the list of 23 players that Javier Aguirre called to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
